Today, are there any REAL news reporters left or do they all reside in cemeteries?
In the past, members of the news media followed the Five Principles of Ethical Journalism--Truth and Accuracy; Independence; Fairness and Impartiality; Humanity; and Accountability. These descriptions may have represented news reporters and anchors in the days of Walter Cronkite and David Brinkley; today, they represent a very few.
In fact, today, news reporting is not only biased and opinionated, in many cases it is just plain wrong, twisted to meet a hidden (or not so hidden) agenda; and worse, those reporting know it!
News is not true or accurate or fair or impartial, and they are definitely not accountable, when you see reporters cheering as they report that the House of Representatives impeached the President of the United States; or when it is a fact that unemployment rates are at historic lows and the stock market reflects enormous highs, but regardless, the major networks report our economy is "in trouble." Worse, when you turn on the television and see reporters and anchors and politicians, alike, mourning the death of a designated terrorist--someone responsible for the deaths and the maiming of our soldiers, just because they do not like the President in office. It is NOT truthful or accurate; it is NOT fair or impartial; it is NOT humane; it is NOT being accountable--IT IS DESPICABLE!
Unfortunately today, not only are the addresses for the last of the REAL news reporters and anchors in the cemeteries across the nation, but if you look, those individuals are actually turning over in their graves!
I am not sure which is the worst occupation today--being a reporter or being a politician who cannot see beyond their biases and/or the positions of their own party, whether right or wrong. Both come with great responsibility; but since this President was elected to office, to say they've fallen short of what we came to expect during the Cronkite and Brinkley years, is the greatest understatement in history.
Harvey McKay said, "If you have integrity, nothing else matters; if you don't have integrity, nothing else matters." Today, both members of the media and Republicans and Democrats need to get back to a life of integrity because if they don't--nothing else will matter in the eyes of our children, our allies or our enemies. Hopefully, the day is coming when the public will hold both accountable and say enough is enough.
